Anyone who hasn’t been living under a rock can name a few of the top high-end designers. I find that the mark of a true fashion lover is when they have their finger on the pulse of the new and undiscovered talent cropping up in the fashion industry. Much like hipsters pride themselves on knowing the latest indie bands, fashionistas revel in knowing about the up and coming fashion designers before the general public learns of them. Here are my top 5 favorite fashion designers on the rise in 2016.

Behno

Emma Watson in a Behno Camel Coat

This sustainable womenswear brand launched in 2012 out of the need for more ethical practices in the fashion manufacturing process and fashion industry as a whole. Behno is designed in New York and manufactured in India. I’ve seen the SS16 collection up close and deal with the collection on a daily basis at my internship and the quality is amazing. The lovely Emma Watson has been spotted wearing Behno. In a few years, I predict that this brand will be a heavy hitter.

Sergio Hudson

Kendall Jenner wearing a black plunging neckline Sergio Hudson jumpsuit at her birthday partyThis breakout womenswear label is one of my favorites because the founder is from my hometown in South Carolina. Sergio Hudson had a stint on Project Runway, but his claim to fame is credited to a member of the Kardashian clan. Remember the sexy jumpsuit with the plunging neckline Kendall Jenner wore to her 20th birthday party? That was Sergio Hudson’s design. With the right PR team, Sergio Hudson can keep up the momentum and really make a name for himself in the fashion industry. I hope to see him show at New York Fashion Week soon. *Fingers crossed*

Cushnie Et Ochs

Cushnie Et Ochs Yellow Dress Street Style

Cushnie Et Ochs was established in 2008 by Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs. In the past couple of years, this womenswear brand has been gaining steam. A favorite of celebrities and street style stars alike. While Cushnie Et Ochs is already at fever pitch status in the fashion community, it won’t be long until this brand becomes a household name.

Naeem Khan

Naeem Khan SS16

Indian designer, Naeem Khan was totally not on my radar until I attended the Spring Summer 2016 runway show at New York Fashion Week. I was absolutely captivated. As a former pageant girl, there are few things I love more than a gorgeous floor-length evening gown. Extra points for elaborate beading! I’ve never been one to fantasize about wedding planning, but whenever that time comes Naeem Khan will be at the top of my list for wedding dress designers. The price point is steep, but the impeccable detail and craftsmanship justify the 20K price tag.

Marques Almeida

Characterized by structured denim pieces with raw hemlines, Marques Almeida is definitely the cool girl brand to watch out for. This designer has been spotted on Rihanna and is a street style favorite.
