Every season I look forward to the GEORGINE show, with bated breath– knowing that it will leave me awestruck and inspired. The GEORGINE Spring 2017 collection was no different. I scurried into Skylight Clarkson Square just as the show was beginning, my wannabe Rockstuds clacking against the stark white linoleum floor, as I made my way to my seat.

The lights went down and the music blared, the first model appeared and proceeded to strut down the runway. I scanned her from head to toe, making mental notes of everything from hair to outfit details– all while fumbling with my phone to get a few good shots of the look and document the entire affair on Snapchat *naturally*.

The first thing I notice is the hair– of course. Each model was outfitted in a blunt cut bob with fringe bangs. When I attended the Fall 2015 GEORGINE show, I was swooning over the curly fros. This collection was all about brightly colored furs, plaid, sexy mesh cut outs and my favorite– the spider web detail! The rocker chic, cool girl aesthetic was in full effect.

Georgine Ratelband, designer of GEORGINE, was inspired by the type of girl who shops at Bergdorf Goodman AND Trash & Vaudeville. “I think it is a more interesting concept of dressing, one where luxury goods coexist with Rock t-shirts, intricate Couture beading meets motorcycle jackets and lightweight furs are punctuated by combat boots.” said Ratelband.

The collection was also inspired by the way that young women raid their mothers’ closets and breathe new life into classic pieces. Specifically, Frances Bean Cobain and Zoe Kravitz, who have mothers with the most incredible closets, came to mind for Ratelband when designing this collection.

Halfway through the show as my battery life waned to a mere 14%, I had a revelation. Why am I viewing this amazing fashion show– this art– through the lens of my iPhone? It was in that moment that I rested my phone on my lap and made a conscious decision to be present in the moment. To espy the marriage of fashion and art with all five senses. It made for a much more robust viewing experience.
