Modern romance– the two words that came to mind while I watched the Michael Costello SS17 runway show today. The eponymous label featured flowing, billowy fabrics, and brought the off the shoulder trend to a fever pitch. The show opened with a model strutting down the runway in what can only be described as the real life manifestation of the flower crown filter on Snapchat. The ornate head ware was complemented with soft cascading waves and bordeaux colored lips that would make Lana Del Rey proud. 
In true Michael Costello fashion, the SS17 collection nailed the modern romantic yet sexy look in the least obvious way. No body-cons here, instead rich feminine colors paired with whimsical billowing jersey fabric, deep V cut necklines, thigh high double slits and the occasional peak of nipple through lacy brocade worked in harmony to create a truly euphoric viewing experience and an even better experience for those lucky enough to wear a Michael Costello design.
When one slips into a piece from the Michael Costello SS17 collection, I can’t imagine they would feel anything short of a goddess, oozing effortless sex appeal. Tyson Beckford’s cameo in the runway show further solidified the sexy subtext of this runway show– and let’s face it, was a welcome surprise. It wasn’t all for grown ups though. One of the models walked down the runway carrying a baby– dressed to the nines in Michael Costello of course. Also, the cutest little girl walked the runway.
My phone died halfway through the show. It turned out to be a good thing because it forced me to be present in the moment and not see the show through a camera lens, but with my own two eyes.
