Since the dawn of time, it seems women have always been told we need a little black dress in our closets. If you forego this wardrobe staple, your closet will certainly feel incomplete. I like to think that I’m not a slave to fashion– But we’re talking about the same girl who impulsively threw away all of her sweatpants after reading a quote from Karl Lagerfeld stating that wearing sweatpants meant you had lost control of your life. In my defense, I was an impressionable 12 year old.
These days, my fashion choices aren’t swayed by arbitrary quotes from fashion people. Though after reading The One Hundred by Nina Garcia (which is like my bible), I set out to fills the gaps in my wardrobe that were so tactfully pointed out to me by Nina Garcia– A little black dress being one of them. Initially, I purchased a very formal little black dress. While that’s good to have on the off chance that I’d need to attend a funeral (too dark?), I found that the formal dress didn’t get much play time because it didn’t fit my lifestyle.
Enter the casual, summer friendly little black dress. I got this dress on a whim from Forever 21, but it has turned out to be one of my best purchases. The light breathable fabric paired with the the loose draped arm holes (lots of side boob opportunity there) has made this item a staple in my summer wardrobe.
Headed to the beach? Throw this dress over your swimsuit. Running errands? Pair this dress with a cute bralette and some Adidas Superstars and you’re good to go. The styling options are truly endless.
