All my life I’ve been plagued with perfectionism. It’s caused me to doubt myself and worst of all lend an overly critical eye to my work. This results in me editing and revising, over and over again. Yet, never releasing what I’m working on because, I still don’t think it’s ready.

I distinctly remember feeling frustrated as a young child because I felt like my handwriting wasn’t up to par. As I was taking notes in class, I would get fixated on the fact that I hated the way my handwriting looked. I kept erasing and re-writing, yet I was never satisfied. I would fall behind in class because of my own crippling perfectionism.

To this day, I still struggle with trying to attain perfection. I find that it manifests itself in my blogging habits. I have this specific idea in my mind of how I would like my blog to look and the tone of the writing. Yet I can’t seem to bring it to fruition.

I put off publishing this post because it wasn’t perfect. Initially I wanted a photographer to take outfit photos for me, but I had to do it myself. Let’s just say it started off rough. Picture me lugging my bulky DSLR camera, tripod and remote to the park. I was awkwardly standing in front of a camera clicking the shutter remote as puzzled onlookers walked by.

Initially, when I started shooting I had an overpriced iced coffee as a prop because I never know what to do with my hands in photos. In my typical clumsy ways, I spilled it– all over the ground and on my shirt– There goes my $6. Yet I persevered. I was determined to get these photos done because even though it’s not perfect, everyone has to start somewhere.

Even the really popular bloggers who have gorgeous photos and amazing engagement had to start somewhere. There is a natural progression and a learning curve to this thing called life and it’s important not to compare your chapter 3 to someone else’s chapter 20.

This mindset doesn’t just apply to blogging. If you’re comparing yourself to your Facebook friend who just got engaged or landed a huge promotion or just ran a 5K– whatever. Remind yourself that comparison is the thief of joy and everyone has their own unique path to success.

I love how the crop top paired with these high waist TopShop Jamie Ripped Jeans leaves just a small peek-a-boo sliver of skin showing. I think it’s unexpectedly sexy without being too *look at me*, which is always a plus in my book.

They are incredibly lightweight and add a flair of effortless sophistication to any outfit. I like to think they’re something Audrey Hepburn would wear, paired with tailored cigarette pants and a boat neck shirt.
