The elusive soft, silky legs– every woman wants them. Here are six tips to get smooth legs after shaving. These are tried and true, born out out years of trial and error. I promise if you follow these directions, you will have the closest shave of your life. Plus razor bumps and keratosis pilaris (aka strawberry skin) will be a thing of the past!

Soak Your Legs

The first step towards getting silk smooth legs is to allow the pores to open up. The best way to do this is to take a bath. Showers work too. I like to soak for at least 15-20 minutes before moving onto the next step. This is the perfect time to squeeze in a quick meditation. I love these guided meditations by Skintimate.

Exfoliate with a Scrub

Next, apply a salt scrub or sugar scrub to your legs. I’ve been loving the Tree Hut Moroccan Rose Shea Sugar Scrub lately. If you really want to take it up a notch, apply the scrub with an exfoliating cloth. I swear by the Kensie exfoliating cloths. These are super similar to what I use!

Shave with Skintimate Shaving Cream

Now it’s time to start the shaving process. I start by covering my legs with a thin layer of Skintimate shaving cream, then I shave upwards with a 4 or 5 blade razor. Make sure to swap out the head of the razor after a few uses to ensure the razor is still sharp enough for a close shave.

Exfoliate Again

After I shave, I do a second round of exfoliation. This time with a spin brush. I think double exfoliating both before and after shaving really helps to get extra silky smooth legs. Simply take a body wash (I’m loving this one by Philosophy), apply it to the spin brush, and run the brush all over your legs. Feel free to use the spin brush on the rest of your body too.

Apply Liquid BHA

This step is major for getting rid of keratosis pilaris, also known as strawberry skin. I apply the Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant to a cotton round and rub it onto my legs. Let it sit for about 2 minutes so that it can sink in before moving onto the next step. This step is essential because the BHA (beta hydroxy acid) helps you shed dead skin to reveal the healthy, soft skin underneath.

Apply Retinol Lotion

Lastly, I apply Paula’s Choice Retinol Skin Smoothing Body Treatment to my legs. This final step locks in moisture while also preventing razor bumps from forming. Although this product is pricey for a body lotion, little goes a long way and it makes a huge difference in the softness of your skin. If you’re on a budget, I also like Gold Bond lotion and Jergens.
