The first time I ever saw a Canadian Tuxedo was when I happened to come across that iconic picture of Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake in their matching denim on denim ensembles at the 2001 American Music Awards. Much like other questionable outfits from the early 2000s, these denim Frankenstein creations were pretty cringe-worthy. What happened during the early 2000s? Why was fashion so bad? The world may never know.
These days, Canadian Tuxedos are making a comeback in an albeit more subtle and wearable way. I’m here for it, though. In my interpretation of the Canadian Tuxedo, I swapped out the denim shirt for a luxe silk blouse from Equipment in a blue color that resembles light wash denim. I’ve been trying to get more wears out of this shirt, but I’ve got to be honest– I’m having a hard time. The silk is so delicate that it wrinkles as the day wears on. Plus, the dry clean only thing is a pain. I just love the way silk feels against my skin, though. Anybody have tips for keeping silk shirts wrinkle free while wearing them?
To give the Canadian Tuxedo a more updated and modern look, I opted for a pair of light wash high waist ripped skinny jeans. These are from Topshop and I live in these, they’re like a second skin at this point. It’s honestly embarrassing how often I wear these jeans. Everyone has their favorite pair of jeans and these are by far my favorite.
Lastly, I slipped on these pink suede pumps from Aldo to create a more elevated look. Then I accessorized with my favorite watch at the moment from Daniel Wellington and this chic felt fedora hat. I wore this outfit earlier today to get Matcha lattes with my friend Liz. Now it’s 1am and I’m still hopped up on caffeine, so I’m signing off and willing myself to go to sleep.
